The Challenge: Modernizing a Complex Global Analytics Environment
Hilton is a leading global hospitality company, operating more than 9,000 properties across over 120 countries. Analytics has become a cornerstone of how the company runs its business, but the environment supporting those insights had grown increasingly complex.
As Hilton’s user base expanded, its on-premises environment had to support large analytical cubes, legacy BI tools, and continuous global demand. Different teams also had distinct workflows and feature requirements, which meant large-scale product updates required extensive planning and manual verification.
Authentication and governance added another layer of complexity. Hilton relied on a custom single-sign-on (SSO) process connected to its identity-management environment. While the setup helped support a growing user base, it also introduced manual work and made upgrades harder to execute. Major changes required coordination across Hilton’s infrastructure, security, and networking teams.
Hilton recognized that the complexity of its existing environment limited access to newer technology, including AI-powered analytics that could improve on-site customer support. The company set out to build a faster, more scalable foundation, improve operational efficiency, and deliver governed analytics across its global workforce.

The Strategy: Migrating Hilton’s Data Environment to Strategy Cloud
The Foundation
Hilton began by assessing the scale and complexity of its existing environment, including approximately 6 TB of analytical cubes, around 12 TB of storage per node, and multiple legacy integrations.
Hilton partnered with Strategy to create a dedicated testing environment where both teams could identify missing components, unsupported customizations, and performance differences before the migration.

The Solution
As testing progressed, Hilton worked with Strategy to migrate its on-premises deployment to Strategy’s cloud environment. The portable, vendor-agnostic infrastructure gave Hilton greater flexibility to integrate new technologies over time.
Hilton also replaced its operationally burdensome custom SSO setup with authentication capabilities supported in the managed cloud environment.
The Differentiation
After validating the configuration and user experience, Hilton updated its DNS routing to direct users to the Strategy cloud environment.
The environment supported Hilton’s 22,000 users through scalable container infrastructure, custom workload monitoring, memory-mapped files that reduced pressure on server memory, and elastic storage for its large analytical cubes.
The Application
Because the deployment operated across multiple regions and time zones, Strategy configured dedicated monitoring and communication processes around Hilton’s expected periods of high usage. This gave both teams greater visibility and support during critical demand periods.
The cloud environment also allowed Hilton to stay up-to-date with performance improvements while continuing to support its analytics workloads.
“Before, we had two upgrades per year. Now, we have them every quarter.”

Greater Efficiency, Faster Upgrades, and a Foundation for AI
The Impact
Strategy’s cloud team now manages infrastructure, vulnerabilities, security patching, monitoring, and backups. This gives Hilton’s administrators more time to focus on the platform, improve the user experience, and evaluate new technologies.
The migration also allowed Hilton to increase its upgrade frequency. Its on-premises deployment had typically completed around two upgrades each year. In the cloud, Hilton adopted a quarterly cadence.
The Future
Hilton plans to use its cloud foundation to explore capabilities that were unavailable on premises. The company has shown particular interest in AI and Strategy Mosaic as areas for future exploration.
Strategy Mosaic provides AI with governed business context and consistent definitions, helping enterprises deliver more reliable AI experiences across existing data and technology environments.
The Long-Term Vision
Hilton’s long-term objective is to spend less time managing infrastructure and more time improving the analytics experience across the business.
The migration gives Hilton greater flexibility to evaluate new capabilities, maintain a faster upgrade cadence, and respond to operational requirements with less internal coordination.
“My team was more available to learn about the tool and dedicate time to the user experience.”
